19-year-old Brooklyn boy stabbed outside Summons Court

A 19-year-old man has been stabbed in the back in a shocking and seemingly unprovoked attack just outside Summons Court, located mere feet from One Police Plaza.

The incident occurred around 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday as the victim was waiting in line outside the Municipal Building, which houses the court and is approximately 500 feet from the entrance to police headquarters.

According to police reports, the victim, who resides in Brooklyn and was scheduled to appear for a traffic summons, described the assailant as someone who approached him without uttering a word before suddenly plunging a knife into his back, just below the neck.

The attack left the young man injured, and he was promptly transported by medics to Bellevue Hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Following the attack, the assailant fled the scene, heading west on Reade Street. Authorities have not yet recovered the weapon used in the assault, leaving investigators with few leads.

This incident marks the second violent act near One Police Plaza within just four days. On Saturday evening, a tragic shooting occurred two blocks east at the intersection of Madison Street and St. James Place, where an innocent bystander was killed and another individual was wounded. The shooter in that incident remains at large, intensifying concerns about safety in the area.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding either the stabbing or the previous shooting to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS, as the investigation continues into these alarming acts of violence in the heart of New York City.
