“A Beautiful Reminder of Our Bond” — NYC Mayor Eric Adams Raises African Union Flag, Reflects on Trip to Africa

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between the United States and Africa, both abroad and at home, as he led the African Union flag-raising ceremony in the city.

The event, held in celebration of Africa Day, symbolized unity, pride, and shared heritage among African communities in New York and across the diaspora.

Mayor Adams used the occasion to reflect on his recent visit to the continent and the enduring connections it reinforced.

“My time in Africa reminded me of the importance of strengthening our relationship with the African people on the continent and here at home,” Adams shared.

Standing proudly with community leaders and African dignitaries, he described the ceremony as a meaningful moment of reflection and solidarity.

“Raising the African Union flag, alongside my brothers and sisters today, was a beautiful reminder of that trip and the bond we share,” he said.

The African Union flag-raising has become an annual tradition in New York City, celebrating the rich cultural, economic, and political contributions of African communities.

Mayor Adams’ remarks underscore the city’s growing efforts to honor African heritage and foster international partnerships.
