Authorities arrest four in drug bust, seize carfentanil in Suffolk County

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney announced on Thursday that a seven-month narcotics investigation has culminated in the county’s first-ever seizure of carfentanil, a synthetic opioid that poses a significant threat due to its potency—reportedly 100 times stronger than fentanyl.

The investigation has led to the arrest of four Long Island residents, who are accused of distributing substantial quantities of carfentanil, fentanyl, cocaine, and committing various other crimes.

Carfentanil, while primarily used as a tranquilizer for large animals such as horses and elephants, has raised alarms among law enforcement due to its potential for abuse and lethality.

John Sims, 40, has been ordered to be held without bail as he faces a severe sentence ranging from 12½ to 25 years in prison. Tyeisha Kisswani, 39, was released during her arraignment since the charges against her are non-bail eligible under New York State law. However, she could face a lengthy prison term of 8⅓ to 25 years if convicted on the top count.

Meanwhile, Robert Day, 65, remains at-large, prompting ongoing efforts to locate him. Adrian Spooner, 36, managed to post $200,000 bail and has been released, but he still faces a potential sentence of up to 14 years if found guilty of the top charge.
