BREAKING: Saudi Arabia Confirms Sunday March 30 as Eid-el-Fitr After Crescent Moon Sighting

Saudi Arabia has officially declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-el-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan. The announcement came after the sighting of the crescent moon of Shawwal, signifying the beginning of the Islamic month.

According to a statement released on Saturday via the official Haramain Facebook page, the Kingdom confirmed the moon sighting, aligning with Islamic traditions that determine the start of Eid based on lunar observations.

“The crescent moon for the month of Shawwal 1446 was sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated on Sunday, March 30, 2025,” the statement read.

Significance of Eid-el-Fitr

Eid-el-Fitr, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is a major Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It marks the end of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection. The festival is observed on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The celebration begins with a special prayer, known as Salat al-Eid, performed in congregation at mosques and open prayer grounds. Muslims also engage in charitable giving, known as Zakat al-Fitr, to support the less fortunate. Families and friends gather to share festive meals, exchange gifts, and express gratitude for the blessings of Ramadan.

Eid-el-Fitr is not only a religious observance but also a time for unity and reconciliation within the Muslim community. The confirmation from Saudi Arabia sets the tone for many countries that follow the Kingdom’s moon sighting, with similar announcements expected in different regions.

As Muslims across the world prepare for the joyous occasion, the declaration from Saudi Arabia provides clarity on the timing of the celebration, ensuring a unified observance of this important Islamic festival.
