Bronx Borough President Gibson Hosts Annual African Heritage Festival at Crotona Park

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson on Saturday, September 13, hosted the annual African Heritage Festival at Crotona Park, celebrating the rich cultural and social contributions of African immigrants to the borough.

Themed “Thriving Together: Immigration, Resilience & Success in 2025,” the festival featured cultural performances, live music, food, and community resource tables that brought together families, community partners, and residents across the Bronx. Elected officials, community leaders, and members of the Bronx African Advisory Council also addressed the gathering.

“Our African Heritage Festival is an opportunity for Bronx residents and families to come together to celebrate the incredible contributions of African culture in our borough,” Borough President Gibson said. She thanked the African Advisory Council (AAC) for co-hosting the event and for its 15 years of service uplifting African communities in the Bronx.

This year’s festival coincided with the 15th anniversary of the AAC, which was also marked during the celebrations. Chair of the Council, Sidiki Donzo, said the milestone was a reminder of the Council’s mission to build stronger connections among communities.

“The event honored our rich heritage and reinforced our commitment to fostering greater togetherness,” Donzo said. “Thanks to collective effort and support, the AAC is stronger than ever and poised to continue growing in influence and impact.”

The African Heritage Festival has become one of the Bronx’s most prominent cultural events, offering a platform to highlight African heritage, promote unity, and underscore the resilience and achievements of immigrant communities.
