In a groundbreaking initiative underscoring the importance of inclusivity and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson spearheaded the first-ever DREAM Job Fair.
This landmark event was held at the Borough Hall in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time dedicated to highlighting the contributions of workers with disabilities and advocating for inclusive work environments.
The event, a collaborative effort orchestrated alongside the Bronx Disability Advisory Council, saw active partnerships with the NYC Department of Education’s ACCES-Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), the New York Department of Labor, and a host of other influential organizations
“In celebration of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we proudly hosted the first-ever DREAM Job Fair earlier this month,” wrote Vanessa Gibson, expressing her gratitude and enthusiasm for the initiative.
A myriad of organizations that are pioneers in diversity and inclusion joined hands to support this noble cause. Special mentions were given to Bridging Access to Care, Goodtemps, Hereford Insurance Company, MTA, New York Life Insurance, NYC Ferry, and the NYPD, among others. Their participation was crucial to the fair’s success, providing attendees with invaluable resources and employment opportunities.
The DREAM Job Fair stands as a testament to the Bronx community’s commitment to fostering a supportive and accessible environment for all its residents. This event not only served as a platform for job seekers with disabilities to connect with potential employers but also shone a spotlight on the crucial conversation about inclusivity in the workplace.
