Bronx River Alliance honored for transforming waterway

Last week marked a milestone in environmental restoration and community resilience as the Bronx River Alliance celebrated 50 years of revitalizing one of New York’s historic waterways.

The celebration highlighted the transformation of the Bronx River from a heavily polluted stream to a thriving natural ecosystem, thanks to the persistent efforts of the Bronx River Alliance.

New York City Council Member Amanda Farias expressed her appreciation, stating, “Last week, we celebrated 50 years of restoration and resilience with the Bronx River Alliance!”

Farias presented the Alliance with a City Council Proclamation on behalf of the Bronx Delegation, recognizing their “outstanding leadership and dedication to our borough.”

She lauded the group’s efforts to rejuvenate the Bronx River and emphasized her commitment to supporting their mission. “I am proud to be a strong partner and fund the important work of the Alliance,” she affirmed.

Since its founding, the Bronx River Alliance has worked tirelessly to clean, protect, and preserve the Bronx River, bringing life back to an area once marred by pollution.

Today, the river stands as a testament to the power of community-driven environmental restoration, fostering local wildlife and providing green space for the Bronx community.
