Bronx Subway: Chain snatchers strike, rob teen in broad daylight

A 14-year-old boy has become the target of a brazen robbery while riding a 5 train.

According to police reports, three men approached the subway car the young boy was in, forcibly dragging him off the train at a station platform.

The assailants snatched a chain from around the teenager’s neck before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, the victim emerged from the ordeal physically unharmed, but the attack left a jarring impression on witnesses and raised alarms about commuter safety during rush hour.

Police described the event as “just a frightening attack,” highlighting the audacity of the criminals who pulled the boy off the train in the middle of the evening rush. This incident marks the second time within a week that a 14-year-old has been targeted for their jewelry in the Bronx. Just a day prior, a girl was robbed of her chain and phone at gunpoint in Bedford Park while en route to school.

As investigations continue, police have released descriptions and images of the suspects to the public, urging vigilance, especially for parents concerned about the safety of their children as they travel to and from school.

This recent surge in subway-related crimes has reignited discussions around security measures and the need for increased police presence in public transit areas.
