Council Member Farias boosts community wellness with $2,000 Health bucks initiative

In a heartwarming initiative aimed at promoting wellness and supporting local farmers, Council Member Amanda Farias took to social media to share the success of her office’s annual Health Bucks distribution event.

Held at the bustling Parkchester Greenmarket, this event saw over $2,000 worth of Health Bucks distributed to community members. These vouchers enable residents to purchase fresh, nutritious produce directly from New York farmers, fostering healthier lifestyle choices at no cost.

“Today was my office’s annual #Healthbucks distribution at the Parkchester Greenmarket,” Farias announced. “We gave out over $2,000 worth of health bucks for neighbors to utilize right here in Parkchester buying fresh food directly from New York farmers.”

Farias expressed her pride in continuing to fund this vital community initiative, emphasizing its role in bringing healthy foods to families. She highlighted collaboration with local community-based organizations to ensure the accessibility of this benefit.

“I am proud to continue to fund this initiative for my community to utilize to bring home healthy foods to their families at no-cost and partner with local CBOs to ensure accessibility of this benefit,” she stated.

The event was a collaborative effort, with thanks extended to @urbanhealthplan, @precinct43, and @raininc1964 for their support in making the distribution a success. This initiative not only supports the health of the community but also strengthens the connection between residents and local farmers, creating a sustainable model for community wellness and economic support.
