Edward Mermelstein Steps Down as NYC Commissioner for International Affairs

Edward Mermelstein, the outgoing Commissioner at New York City’s Mayor’s Office of International Affairs, has officially announced his resignation after nearly four impactful years of service.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Mermelstein expressed deep pride and gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the role, which he described as both “challenging and incredibly rewarding.”

“After nearly four unforgettable years serving as New York City’s Commissioner for International Affairs, I’m stepping down with deep pride and gratitude,” he wrote.

Highlighting some of the major achievements under his leadership, Mermelstein noted, “From elevating NYC’s global role in diplomacy, AI, and inclusive growth to strengthening ties with the world’s largest diplomatic corps, this journey has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.”

He extended appreciation to key figures and collaborators who supported his work. “I’m grateful to @nycmayor for his vision and leadership, to the amazing team at the Mayor’s Office, and to our extraordinary partners across government and business worldwide. These relationships have been the cornerstone of our success.”

Mermelstein also used the occasion to congratulate his successor: “A special congratulations to my former Chief of Staff and now NYC’s new Commissioner for International Affairs, @aissatacamaraNYC—you inspire with your integrity and purpose.”

He reserved a final note of gratitude for his loved ones. “And to my family—especially my wife—thank you for your endless love and support throughout this journey.”

Looking ahead, Mermelstein affirmed his continued dedication to the city and its global partnerships: “I look forward to continuing to support NYC and our global partners in the work ahead.”
