Flushing celebrates new Eagle Scouts, Council Member Ung praises youth leadership

Flushing marked a momentous occasion this past weekend as eight young leaders were honored at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony hosted by Troop 253 at Mary’s Nativity Church.

Council Member Sandra Ung, who attended the event, expressed her admiration for the youth of Flushing and their dedication to community service.

“As someone who has had the privilege of attending several Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremonies, I am always inspired by the remarkable level of community service that our youth in Flushing exhibit,” wrote Council Member Ung. “Time and again, young men and women rise to the occasion, demonstrating what it means to give back and make a difference.”

The new scouts

The eight new Eagle Scouts — Matthew Chung, Michael Lee, Jeremy Lee, Tiki Li, Leo Zhang, Tyler Augienello, Hou Wai Yip, and Alvaro Brandon—were celebrated for achieving Scouting’s highest honor. Their accomplishments were recognized alongside the guidance and mentorship of Troop Leader John Restrepo.

The ceremony showcased the values of leadership, hard work, and service that are deeply rooted in the Flushing community. Council Member Ung’s remarks underscored the importance of recognizing and supporting young individuals who dedicate their efforts to making a difference.
