“I stay focused and run this city” — Mayor Adams defends administration amidst resignations, legal scrutiny

Mayor Eric Adams addressed recent resignations and legal challenges facing his administration.

Despite the turbulence, Adams emphasized his continued focus on city governance, stating, “I’m here to serve now. People often talk about what happens next. Tomorrow’s not promised to any of us.”

The mayor highlighted his administration’s achievements, including crime reduction and increased housing initiatives, asserting, “Look at the numbers. This show has been a great show for the city.”

On the legal front, Adams maintained his stance, saying, “I would never instruct anyone to do anything illegal or improper. Follow the law is my number one instruction.”

First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer was introduced, with Adams praising her leadership, “She’s a proud, proud New Yorker and a proud public servant.”

Amidst questions about further resignations and the impact of investigations, Adams remained resolute, stating, “Life is tough. And they elected a tough mayor that has gone through a lot.”

The mayor assured New Yorkers of his commitment to running the city effectively, while expressing concern about the potential chilling effect on immigrant communities, “I am concerned that this can be a real chill on these communities.”
