Immigrant advocates unite to challenge Trump’s deportation agenda

Immigrant advocates are gearing up for a fierce battle against Trump’s controversial deportation policies.

Murad Awawdeh, President and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), voiced a powerful message of resilience and defiance: “Trump will not defeat us. New York would not be the same without the immigrants who have built and rebuilt our culture and economy for generations. Donald Trump has demonized our communities at every turn of this election, and has promised to tear apart the families that have contributed so much more to our great state than he has.”

Awawdeh emphasized the coalition’s commitment to fight back.

“We stopped him before and we will stop him again. Together, we will fight the fascist President-elect and his racist deportation agenda every step of the way – to ensure that our immigrant neighbors, families, and communities will live in safety and with dignity. We must stand together to protect our immigrant neighbors, and to build a just and inclusive future for all New Yorkers.”

The New York Immigration Coalition, an umbrella policy and advocacy organization, represents over 200 immigrant and refugee rights groups across the state.

Serving one of the largest and most diverse newcomer populations in the U.S., the NYIC boasts a multi-racial and multi-sector membership base that includes grassroots organizations, religious institutions, labor unions, and legal advocacy groups.

Since its founding in 1987, the NYIC has emerged as a powerful advocate for immigrant rights, spearheading innovative policies, enhancing access to services, and mobilizing communities to effect positive social change.
