Jessica Tisch named new NYPD commissioner

In a move signaling a new chapter for the New York Police Department (NYPD), Jessica Tisch, the current New York City Department of Sanitation Commissioner, has been appointed as the next NYPD Commissioner.

Mayor Eric Adams made the announcement, lauding Tisch’s leadership and dedication to transforming the city.

“I am extremely proud to announce that New York City Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch — a real #GetStuffDone New Yorker — will be our next NYPD commissioner,” Adams stated.

Tisch, who spearheaded the groundbreaking “Trash Revolution,” has overseen the containerization of 70% of the 44 million pounds of trash produced daily in New York City. Her efforts have not only improved waste management but also demonstrated her visionary leadership and ability to deliver results.

“New Yorkers have seen her vision and hard work transform our city,” Adams continued. “She has been one of the most successful managers in our administration, and I am confident that she will continue to deliver on our public safety goals while also moving the greatest police department in the world forward into the future.”

Adams also expressed gratitude to Interim Police Commissioner Tom Donlon for his service over the past two months. “His experience serving our state and country were a great asset, and we appreciate his willingness to quickly come on board for the men and women of the NYPD,” Adams said, adding that Donlon will transition into a new role within the city’s public safety team.
