In a bold step towards ensuring the safety of New Yorkers and supporting delivery workers, Mayor Eric Adams announced the launch of a new lithium-ion battery trade-in program.

The initiative aims to replace potentially hazardous batteries with safer alternatives, promoting a secure environment for all.

Mayor Adams emphasized the dual focus of the program, stating, “Our lithium-ion battery trade-in program is about keeping New Yorkers safe AND ensuring our hard-working delivery workers have the SAFE equipment to #GetStuffDone.”

The program is simple and impactful: residents are encouraged to surrender their dangerous lithium-ion batteries in exchange for safe versions at no cost. “All you have to do is give us your dangerous devices, and we’ll give you safe versions for FREE,” he added, highlighting the ease of participation in this crucial safety initiative.

This program not only addresses safety concerns but also reinforces the city’s commitment to supporting its essential delivery workforce.
