NYC comptroller Lander pushes for congestion pricing amid legal setbacks

In a passionate call to action, New York City Comptroller Brad Lander underscored the pressing need to reinstate congestion pricing, declaring, “Congestion pricing is the law—and it has never been more urgent to reinstate than now.”

His statement comes in light of recent developments in the ongoing legal battle surrounding this crucial policy.

In September, Governor Kathy Hochul faced a setback when her motion to dismiss two critical lawsuits aimed at restoring congestion pricing was denied.

This ruling has intensified the urgency for advocates and city officials alike to push for the implementation of congestion pricing, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and promote sustainable transportation.

Lander emphasized the collaborative effort behind this initiative, stating, “Our broad coalition of transit riders, environmental advocates, and disability justice organizations will continue fighting.”

The coalition’s determination reflects a growing consensus on the importance of addressing congestion in New York City, as stakeholders rally to support a solution that prioritizes both environmental and social justice.
