NYC Crime Hits Record Lows in July — Mayor Adams Credits NYPD and Precision Policing

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has hailed a significant drop in crime across the city, declaring July 2025 as a historic month with the lowest number of shooting incidents and victims ever recorded in the city’s history.

In a statement reflecting on the month of July, Mayor Adams celebrated what he described as the seventh consecutive quarter of crime reduction in the city, highlighting sharp declines in some of the most violent crime categories.

“As we reflect on the month of July, we are exceptionally proud that overall crime continues to topple — leading off our seventh consecutive quarter of crime reductions — with some of our most violent crimes at record lows across the city,” the mayor said.

According to Adams, shooting incidents and shooting victims reached record lows in July, making it the safest July on record. The mayor also noted that the first seven months of 2025 mark the fewest shooting incidents and shooting victims ever recorded in New York City.

In addition to street crime, the mayor pointed to a drop in subway-related crime.

“Crime in the subway system in July was at record lows, excluding the 2020 and 2021 pandemic years,” Adams stated.

The mayor credited the sustained progress to his administration’s focus on precision policing and integrity in law enforcement.

“This incredible progress is no coincidence — it is thanks to our administration’s dedication to policing with precision and integrity. At a time when many want to defund the police, our administration will always defend them.”

He concluded by expressing gratitude to Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell Tisch and members of the New York Police Department (NYPD) for their courage and service.

“I want to extend my deepest thanks to Police Commissioner Tisch and the courageous men and women of the NYPD who put on their uniforms every single day, running toward danger so we don’t have to face it ourselves, and fighting to keep New York City the safest big city in America.”

Mayor Adams’ statement comes amid national conversations around public safety and policing strategies, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the country’s most populous city.
