A Manhattan-bound 7 train turned into the scene of a violent clash early Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and four others in police custody.

The chaos unfolded around 12:35 a.m. on December 22, as the train pulled into the Woodside-61st Street Station.

According to police reports, two suspects from a larger group of men onboard the train approached a sleeping passenger and attempted to rob him. The victim awoke and resisted, sparking a bloody altercation that involved several knives.

Responding officers found a man with multiple stab wounds to the chest, later identified as the robbers’ initial target, and another man with a slash wound to the face. Both men were transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where the stabbing victim succumbed to his injuries.

The slashed individual, identified as one of the perpetrators, was taken into custody for questioning. Authorities also detained three other individuals in connection with the incident. Charges against them are pending as investigations continue.

“This was an avoidable tragedy and a stark reminder of the dangers posed by armed confrontations,” an NYPD spokesperson stated.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the fatal brawl.
