“Cuomo’s bail reform threat to New York safety” — Curtis Sliwa

Curtis Sliwa, the former mayoral candidate for New York City and founder of the Guardian Angels, has launched a scathing critique of former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s controversial “No Cash Bail Reform.”

In a recent statement, Sliwa recalled the tense period when Cuomo threatened to halt the state’s budget to ensure the reform’s passage, despite vocal opposition from the New York Police Department.

Sliwa highlighted the consequences he attributes to the reform, stating, “Repeat offenders back on our streets after committing a crime. MORE hate crimes towards women, seniors, and children. A RISE in antisemitic attacks. A RISE in Asian Hate.”

He emphasized the perceived recklessness of Cuomo’s decision-making, asserting, “CUOMO chose to risk the lives of New Yorkers for political gain with progressives.”

The reform, which aimed to eliminate cash bail for most misdemeanors and non-violent felonies, has been a point of contention, with critics arguing it compromises public safety. Sliwa claims, “It is because of Cuomo’s law that lives have been lost, and people feel more unsafe every day.”

The former mayoral contender also criticized Cuomo’s political tactics, recalling the former governor’s willingness to shut down the state government and suspend city services to ensure the reform’s implementation. Sliwa’s message is clear: “We will never forget what Cuomo and supporters of this law did to New York. We will never let him become Mayor.”
