The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has formally urged Attorney General Pam Bondi to review and act on a criminal referral made against former New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, accusing him of making “criminally false statements” in violation of federal law.

In a letter dated April 21, 2025, Chairman James Comer reminded the Attorney General that the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic had referred Cuomo to the Department of Justice on October 30, 2024.

The allegations are tied to statements the former governor allegedly made that violated 18 U.S.C. §1001, a federal statute that criminalizes knowingly and willfully making false or fraudulent statements to the government.

“To our knowledge, the Biden Administration ignored this referral despite clear facts and evidence,” Chairman Comer wrote.

“Accordingly, we request you review this referral and take appropriate action. For your reference, the referral is attached to this letter.”

The Committee emphasized its broad oversight powers, noting its responsibility under House Rule X to investigate “any matter” at “any time.” The letter also offered the Justice Department an open line of communication to follow up on the issue.

“To ask any follow up questions, please contact the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Majority staff at (202) 225-5074,” the letter added.

The correspondence was sent on official committee letterhead from 2157 Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C., and was also addressed to The Honorable Gerald Connolly, the committee’s Ranking Member.

As of now, the Department of Justice has not publicly responded to the renewed call for action.
