Mayor Adams Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week, Unveils Plan to Hire 3,700 New Educators

As Teacher Appreciation Week kicks off across the nation, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced a major investment in education that includes the hiring of 3,700 new teachers for the 2025–2026 academic year.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Mayor Adams praised the dedication of NYC Public Schools educators, calling them the backbone of the city’s future. “Every day, you are making a difference in the lives of our future leaders,” he stated. “We’re so proud to support you—and we love teachers so much that we’re hiring 3,700 MORE!”

The announcement is part of what Adams dubbed the city’s “Best Budget Ever,” aimed at creating smaller class sizes and more personalized learning environments for students. The investment underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring that New York remains the best place to raise a family.

Teachers and education advocates have welcomed the move, citing the positive impact smaller classes can have on student achievement, classroom management, and teacher well-being.

With the city’s educational future in sharp focus, Mayor Adams closed his statement with a resounding thank-you to educators: “Thank you to ALL our educators for making us the BEST place to raise a family.”
