Transatlantic Family Reunification Day Set to Unite Africans in Diaspora

The historic Transatlantic Family Reunification Day will bring together Africans in the diaspora to commemorate a pivotal moment in history. The initiative seeks to reconnect families torn apart by the transatlantic enslavement trade and subsequent migration.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has thrown his weight behind the effort, underscoring the significance of cultural heritage. “When we understand our history, we can better understand ourselves and our place in the world,” he emphasized.

The celebration promises to be a vibrant affair, featuring visits to significant sites, investment opportunity forums, education and health exhibitions, cultural performances, and traditional cuisine. A thought-provoking panel discussion will also be held to explore the importance of reconnecting with one’s roots.

The event is the result of a collaborative effort between Daylight Africa, Ghana, World Conference of Mayors, Ghana, National Ghana Parade Council of New York, and other organizations.

A highlight of the event will be the unveiling of a Transatlantic Family Reunification Statue of Mayor Eric Adams, symbolizing the city’s commitment to reconnecting with its African heritage.
