Trump signs order offering free flights and incentives for undocumented immigrants to leave US

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing a new voluntary return program for undocumented immigrants, offering free government-funded flights and financial incentives for those who choose to permanently leave the country.

According to a White House statement, the executive order launches the Free Return Home program and outlines plans to use tools such as the CBP Home app to facilitate the departure process for undocumented migrants.

The administration said the initiative is intended to create “rapid departure mechanisms” for individuals without legal status in the U.S.

Undocumented immigrants who opt for voluntary departure under the program will have their travel costs covered by the federal government and receive an “exit bonus” to support their relocation.

Trump announced the program on social media, calling it “the first-ever self-deportation program.” He warned that those who do not participate may face “sudden deportation” at a time and place of the government’s choosing.

“TO ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS: BOOK YOUR FREE FLIGHT RIGHT NOW!” Trump wrote.

The move comes days after the administration announced a $1,000 incentive for undocumented immigrants who agree to self-deport, part of a broader effort to tighten immigration enforcement.

Since returning to office in January, Trump has reintroduced several hardline immigration policies. In one of his first moves, he ordered the termination of the CBP One app, which previously provided legal pathways for asylum and entry for migrants.

He also directed the Department of Defense to prepare facilities at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to house up to 30,000 undocumented immigrants. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the site would serve as a secure detention center for migrants awaiting removal.

The administration’s immigration agenda has drawn criticism from civil rights organizations and immigration advocates, who argue the policies are punitive and undermine human rights. The White House maintains the measures are necessary to restore border control and national security.
