16-year-old shot dead in Brooklyn

A 16-year-old male was shot to death at a Brooklyn NYCHA complex late Saturday night. The shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Auburn Place near N. Portland Avenue at the Walt Whitman Houses complex in Fort Greene.

The young victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was quickly rushed to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital by medics. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he couldn’t be saved.

As investigators combed the scene for evidence, police recovered four bullet fragments, which may provide crucial information in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are also on the lookout for a gray Hyundai that was seen speeding away shortly after the shooting.

This tragic killing marks the fifth homicide this year in the 88th Precinct, a significant increase compared to the three killings recorded in all of 2023, highlighting concerns about rising violence in the area.

The community is left to grapple with the loss of a young life and the escalating challenges of safety in their neighborhoods.
