Former Bergen County Sheriff’s chief Stephen Bojekian arrested for possessing child abuse material

Stephen Bojekian, a 69-year-old retired chief of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly possessing child abuse material. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrest, which has sent ripples through the community.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Bojekian is accused of using the internet “to view, download, and possess items depicting nude and/or sexually explicit prepubescent and pubescent children.”

This alarming revelation came to light following a thorough search of Bojekian’s Franklin Lakes residence conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit.

Bojekian now faces serious charges, specifically third-degree possession of child pornography. Following his arrest, he was remanded to the Morris County Jail and is awaiting his first appearance in state Superior Court in Hackensack.
