MORRIS PARK, THE BRONX — Rainy, chilly weather could not diminish the community spirit at the Morris Park Columbus Day Parade, as schools, community organisations, floats and local marchers gathered to celebrate the occasion along Morris Park Avenue and Williamsbridge Road.
The annual parade brought together residents and community participants, with the procession showcasing the organisations and groups that contribute to the neighbourhood’s identity and civic life.

Leading the procession was the NYPD Mounted Unit, whose officers and horses set the pace as the parade moved through the streets. Local elected officials and Deputy Inspector Stapleton of the NYPD’s 49th Precinct watched from the reviewing stand alongside other spectators, acknowledging the participants as they passed.

Adding a taste of Italian-American tradition to the festivities, Gino’s of the Bronx’s Little Italy provided cannoli for attendees, giving participants and spectators another reason to enjoy the occasion.
Beyond the marching groups and floats, the parade reflected the importance of community events in maintaining Morris Park’s neighbourhood character. Their continued success depends on the participation of residents, local businesses, civic organisations and public officials who help preserve traditions while keeping community life active and inclusive.

Even under grey skies, Morris Park’s parade demonstrated that community pride does not necessarily depend on perfect weather. It depends on people willing to show up, participate and keep local traditions moving forward.
