Council member Farias leads push to empower immigrant workers

In a bold step towards uplifting immigrant workers and tackling labor shortages, the New York City Council, led by Council Member Amanda Farias, passed two critical resolutions during Thursday’s  Meeting.

Reflecting on the achievement, Farias remarked, “When fighters of immigrants and [the] workforce come together, we win!” Her statement underscored the unity and determination behind the new measures.

The resolutions, Reso 521 and Reso 576, aim to expand workforce development opportunities and safety training for newly arrived immigrants, with a focus on the construction and manufacturing industries. These policies are designed to empower immigrant workers while addressing critical labor gaps.

“The work we do at the City & State resolution have (sic) to highlight how these policies will help immigrant workers thrive while addressing labor shortages in critical industries,” Farias added, emphasizing the broader impact of the initiatives.

The success of these resolutions was made possible through collaboration with key advocates and organizations, including La Colmena, Hispanic Federation, Mixteca, Afrikana, Tacombi, Senator Salazar & Fernandez, and Assembly Members Reyes and Septimo. Farias also extended her gratitude to Chairs Aviles and Joseph for their support.
