Mayor Adams, Governor Hochul announce winning proposal for Bronx Kingsbridge Armory

This week, Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced the winner of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the historic Kingsbridge Armory, setting the stage for a transformative project in the Bronx.

The winning proposal, spearheaded by El Centro Kingsbridge, aims to reimagine the armory into a dynamic community hub. In a joint statement, the officials highlighted the project’s potential:

“We are pleased by the progress we are making toward reimagining the iconic Kingsbridge Armory into a space that will serve the Kingsbridge community and our entire borough. El Centro Kingsbridge has the potential to boost the economy, increase tourism, invest in workforce development and small businesses, and create community space, recreational space, and opportunities for education and emerging markets.”

The redevelopment has already received a $2 million investment and has been a collaborative effort supported by local leaders, including Councilmember Pierina Sanchez, Sandra Lobo, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, and the ‘Together for Kingsbridge’ coalition.

“We look forward to reimagining the Kingsbridge Armory and fulfilling the community vision that ‘Together for Kingsbridge’ has worked so hard to achieve. Together, we will work towards our common goals and priorities that serve to uplift our Kingsbridge community and our borough,” the statement concluded.

The project promises to breathe new life into the armory while honoring the community’s vision, paving the way for economic growth, innovation, and local engagement in the Bronx.
