Ocasio-Cortez inspires young minds at P.S. 70Q College career day

On January 10, 2025, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) joined the students of Public School 70 Queens for their College and Career Awareness Day, an event designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders.

Addressing approximately 125 fifth-grade students, Ocasio-Cortez shared insights into her work in Congress and encouraged the young scholars to dream big and aim high.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to speak to our youngest constituents about what I do in Congress and how I work to help our community. My goal was simple: encourage the students to dream big. Their questions were insightful and showed a tremendous curiosity for our legislative process. I truly look forward to watching these young scholars grow and lead our community in the years to come,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

The day was part of a larger initiative, College & Career Spirit Week, which ran from January 6 to January 10. The program encouraged students to explore future academic and professional paths while building school pride and fostering creativity.

School Social Worker Stephanie Abel highlighted the significance of the event, stating: “College & Career Awareness Day was a tremendous success, providing our students with invaluable insights into their futures and inspiring them to dream big. The event not only equipped them with the tools and knowledge to pursue their goals, but it also strengthened the bond within our school community. Having Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez join us and share her experience with our young scholars was especially impactful—her words of empowerment and dedication to service left a lasting impression. This day will undoubtedly inspire many of our students to take bold steps toward their academic and professional aspirations.”

College & Career Awareness Day stands as a key milestone in P.S. 70Q’s efforts to shape the aspirations and futures of its students. With inspirational leaders like Ocasio-Cortez at the forefront, the school continues to nurture the dreams and ambitions of its young community.
