In a major step toward enhancing public safety in the Bronx, a coalition of local leaders and community organizations gathered today to present a $294,000 check aimed at improving security at NYCHA’s Teller Avenue-166th Street/Claremont Consolidated development.

The event brought together Assembly Member Landon Dais, Council Member Althea Stevens, Release the Grip, Bronx Connect, and public housing leaders, all united in their commitment to creating safer living environments for public housing residents.

“Today, we joined Assembly Member Landon Dais, Council Member Althea Stevens, Release the Grip, Bronx Connect, and public housing leaders to proudly present a $294,000 check to support security enhancements at NYCHA’s Teller Avenue-166th Street/Claremont Consolidated development,” organizers stated during the presentation.

The funding will be used for critical security enhancements, including potential upgrades such as surveillance systems, improved lighting, and other safety measures designed to help residents feel secure in their homes.

“This allocation will fund security enhancements to help ensure residents feel safe in their homes. As part of our broader commitment to public safety, we are working closely with NYCHA, our Tenant Association Presidents, and residents to determine the best placement of these critical upgrades,” the coalition affirmed.

The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between elected officials, community-based organizations, and NYCHA leadership to tackle long-standing safety concerns in public housing. By investing in infrastructure and fostering community engagement, the effort underscores a proactive approach to public safety and resident well-being.

Residents and tenant leaders have welcomed the investment, calling it a long-overdue boost to security in the area.
