Adams and Trump: Unlikely Allies in Indictment Saga

By Robert Press

Recently, Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference, addressing his recent indictment on federal corruption charges. In a surprise move, Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, expressed support for Adams, stating they’re in the “same boat” regarding alleged politically motivated federal justice department targeting.

Trump recalled Adams’ comments on illegal migrants’ impact on NYC, predicting his indictment. “I watched about a year ago when he talked about how the illegal migrants are hurting our city, and the federal government should pay us, and we shouldn’t have to take them,” Trump said. “And I said: You know what? He’ll be indicted within a year. And I was exactly right.”

Surprisingly, Adams welcomed Trump’s sentiment, saying, “I welcome support from every American, no matter where they are and who they are. Those who know me and know how I am, and those just reading up on this. So every American in this great country, I welcome the support of.”

However, Adams pleaded not guilty to five federal corruption charges, including wire fraud and bribery, related to alleged travel perks and illegal campaign donations from Turkish officials.

Trump faces his own criminal cases, including federal election interference and New York hush money allegations.

Adams stood alone during the press conference, surrounded by signs highlighting his accomplishments. He declined to repeat allegations against the Biden administration but emphasized putting New Yorkers first.

“Despite our pleas, when the federal government did nothing as its broken immigration policies overloaded our shelter system with no relief, I put the people of New York before party and politics,” he said in a video declaring his innocence.

This unlikely alliance raises questions, especially given Adams’ willingness to support Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris.
