“Better comply or lose federal funding” — Trump warns Maine Governor over transgender athlete ban

United States President, Donald Trump, has issued a stern warning to Maine Governor Janet Mills, stating that the state risks losing federal funding if it does not comply with his recent executive order banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports.

Speaking in video obtained by New York Parrot, Trump defended his executive order, signed two weeks ago, which prohibits biological males from participating in women’s sports.

He criticized Democrats for opposing the measure, predicting that their resistance would cost them politically.

“Many Democrats are fighting me on that. I hope you continue because you’ll never win another race,” Trump said, suggesting that public opinion strongly favors his position.

He praised the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for its swift compliance with the order, calling it “good”, but turned his focus to Maine, where Governor Mills has indicated that she will follow both state and federal laws rather than automatically enforcing Trump’s directive.

In a heated exchange, Trump insisted that federal law overrides state law, warning Mills of financial repercussions if she does not comply.

“Well, we are the federal law. You better do it. You better do it because you’re not gonna get any federal funding at all if you don’t,” Trump declared.

He also claimed that despite Maine’s reputation as a liberal-leaning state, his policies align with the will of its people.

“Your population doesn’t want men playing in women’s sports. So you better comply because otherwise, you’re not getting any federal funding,” Trump warned.

Doubling down on his stance, Trump challenged Maine and other states to take the issue to court.

“See you in court, every state. Good. I’ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And enjoy your life after governor, ‘cause I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics,” he said, suggesting that Mills’ refusal to comply could impact her political future.

Trump’s comments have further escalated the national debate over transgender participation in sports, setting the stage for potential legal battles between the federal government and individual states that oppose his order.
