Dramatic police body camera footage has emerged, revealing a tense confrontation between officers and a suspect at a Brooklyn subway station that escalated into chaos, resulting in a police officer and two innocent bystanders being injured due to “friendly fire.”
The footage depicts 37-year-old Derrell Mickles, who was being pursued by police after he hopped a turnstile at the L line station on Sutter Avenue. Officers can be heard urgently shouting, “drop the knife!” and “put the knife down!” as Mickles, armed with a knife, refuses to comply with their commands on Sunday.
In a bid to subdue him, the officers first deployed a taser, successfully incapacitating Mickles momentarily. However, as the situation escalated, officers opened fire, hitting Mickles, who then collapsed onto the train floor but appeared to show minimal reaction to being shot.
