Rabbi Bob Kaplan, a respected Bronx-based interfaith and Jewish leader, has been recognized by the New York Disaster Interfaith Services (NYDIS) and its CEO, Peter Gudaitis, as he prepares to step down after 32 years of transformative leadership at the Center for a Shared Society at JCRC-NY.
Reflecting on the unexpected honor, Rabbi Kaplan expressed his gratitude, “A wholly unexpected recognition by NYDIS, and its CEO Peter Gudaitis, for what I’m now framing as my ‘Stepping Forward’ from 32 years as the Executive Director and Founder of the Center for a Shared Society @ JCRCNY at the end of this month.”
During his tenure, Rabbi Kaplan played a pivotal role in fostering interfaith dialogue and building collaborative relationships across New York City’s diverse communities. Under his guidance, the Center for a Shared Society became a hub for community connection and understanding, bridging gaps between faiths and cultures.
The acknowledgment also reflects the long-standing partnership between Rabbi Kaplan and NYDIS, an organization dedicated to faith-based disaster recovery since 9/11. Kaplan commended their work, saying, “NYDIS is an extraordinary organization that has served, with the caring of faith, so many impacted by disasters since 9/11. A deep Thank You for their service, partnership, and service these many years.”
While Rabbi Kaplan transitions from his role at JCRC-NY, he remains committed to advancing the mission of community resilience and interfaith unity in his current capacity as the Director of the Center for a Shared Society in New York. His enduring legacy serves as an inspiration for faith leaders and organizations worldwide.
