Bronx Families Demand Action Six Months After Devastating Wallace Avenue Fire

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson has joined housing advocates and displaced residents of 2910 Wallace Avenue to demand urgent intervention from New York City authorities, following the devastating fire that occurred six months ago.

In a statement posted on social media, President Gibson expressed deep concern over the prolonged displacement of many tenants, who are still living in shelters or unstable housing conditions.

“We stood with the Legal Aid Society, housing advocates, and displaced tenants from 2910 Wallace Avenue to demand urgent action from the City,” she said. “Six months after the devastating fire, many families are still residing in shelters or unstable conditions.”

Representing the Borough President’s Office at the gathering was Community Affairs Associate Millicent Matos, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to justice for the affected residents.

“Our Community Affairs Associate, Millicent Matos, spoke on behalf of our office to stand in solidarity with these tenants as they fight for accountability, critical repairs, and the right to return home safely and with dignity,” Gibson added. “The City must act now. These families deserve justice and a safe return home.”

Advocates and residents continue to push for expedited repairs, greater transparency from city agencies, and the protection of tenants’ rights to return to their homes.
