Bronx BP Gibson Pushes Bronx Priorities at Opening of 2026 New York Legislative Session

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson has reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for Bronx residents at the opening of the 2026 New York State Legislative Year in Albany, stressing that the borough’s needs must remain a top priority as lawmakers begin the session.

Gibson, who attended the opening session, said her presence was aimed at ensuring that Bronx families were well represented from the outset. “Yesterday in Albany for the opening session of the 2026 New York State Legislative Year, we were proud to advocate for Bronx families and ensure our borough’s priorities were front and center from day one,” she said.

The Borough President disclosed that she held meetings with top state legislative leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, to reinforce the Bronx’s legislative agenda.

“We were grateful to meet with Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to reinforce the Bronx’s legislative priorities,” Gibson stated.

She noted that her administration remains focused on addressing critical issues affecting residents across the borough, particularly in areas such as housing, public safety, education, and economic development.

According to Gibson, these sectors are essential to improving quality of life and expanding opportunities for Bronx communities.

“As the work in Albany begins, we are committed to making sure the Bronx has a strong voice at the table,” she said, adding that her office will continue to engage state lawmakers throughout the legislative year to advance policies that support families and promote equitable growth across the Bronx.
