The Latino Pastoral Action Center, in collaboration with the Council of Holistic Christian Church and a network of churches and community organizations, is holding a press conference to address the looming immigration crisis.

Scheduled for Friday, January 5, at 1:30 PM, the event will take place at 14 W. 170th Street, Bronx, NY, and will serve as a unified call to action against impending federal policies on mass deportation and the suspension of immigrant support programs.

“This is a crucial moment for our community as we prepare for potential policies that threaten to separate families and deport hard-working individuals who have sought refuge in this country to realize the American dream,” organizers stated.

The coalition emphasized its commitment to advocating for vulnerable immigrant populations and ensuring their voices are heard amid these challenging times.

Representatives from various faiths and cultural traditions will join the event to show solidarity with the immigrant community. Their collective message: the immigrant population has long been a cornerstone of America’s economy and cultural identity, and any policies that undermine this legacy will be met with unwavering opposition.

“We stand unconditionally against the harmful and dehumanizing policies that seek to undermine this legacy,” the statement added.

Organizers stressed that the gathering would reflect on shared holiday narratives such as Hanukkah, Three Kings’ Day, Epiphany, the Nativity story, and Kwanzaa, highlighting the universal values of hope, refuge, and community.

“Through both action and prayer, we reject these policies that violate the principles of hospitality that our nation was built upon, as well as the biblical mandate to welcome the stranger and the sojourner,” the group affirmed.

The press conference will serve as both a protest against harmful immigration policies and a reaffirmation of the values of justice, compassion, and unity. Community leaders urge all members of the public, regardless of immigration status, to join the cause and stand for dignity and respect for all.

For more information, attendees are encouraged to contact the Latino Pastoral Action Center. Together, faith leaders and community members aim to ensure that the country remains a beacon of hope for immigrants and refugees.
