Mayor Adams, BP Gibson, interfaith leaders attend 2nd Annual Interfaith Iftar in NY

In a remarkable display of unity and commitment to public safety, New York City Mayor Eric Adams joined Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson and other New York leaders to attend the second annual Citywide Interfaith Ramadan Iftar in the Bronx, hosted by Muslim Advisory Council.

This event, held on Thursday, brought together diverse faith communities and leaders to break bread and foster mutual understanding.

The event was co-hosted by Sheikh Musa Drammeh, a prominent Bronx community leader and founder of the Muslim Media Corporation, who has been instrumental in promoting interfaith dialogue and community cohesion. His initiatives, such as the Lifestyle Lifespan campaign, have addressed health equity challenges and emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle among New Yorkers.

Mayor Adams expressed his honor in joining the Muslim community for the Iftar. He said, “Honored to join my Muslim brothers and sisters tonight, breaking bread together in the Bronx at the second annual City/State Interfaith Iftar. Ramadan is a special and holy time for these New Yorkers, and we are always proud to ensure they feel supported by their city.”

The event underscored the city’s dedication to inclusivity and the celebration of its rich cultural tapestry.

By participating in such gatherings, leaders like Mayor Adams and Sheikh Drammeh highlight the strength found in unity and the shared commitment to public safety and community well-being.

Sheikh Drammeh’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. In October 2023, New York State Senator Nathalia Fernandez officially recognized his outstanding contributions to the Bronx community, particularly in fostering constructive dialogue between diverse groups.

The Interfaith Ramadan Iftar serves as a testament to the power of coming together across faiths to promote peace, understanding, and a shared commitment to the safety and prosperity of all New Yorkers.

Key attendees included NYC Mayor, Eric Adams, Bronx Borough President, Vanessa Gibson, Imam Oumar Nias Rabbi Bob Kaplan,
Archbishop Rosario Pastor Dr. Gloria Bent and many others.
