Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser are set to host the city’s inaugural Crypto Summit on May 20, marking a pivotal step in positioning the Big Apple as a global hub for digital finance innovation.

Slated to take place from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the summit will bring together leading figures from the cryptocurrency, blockchain, and fintech industries — including founders, CEOs, and investors managing assets worth over $1 trillion.

“This event will reinforce Mayor Adams’ forward-thinking leadership on digital financial technologies and comes on the heels of the White House Digital Assets Summit in March,” a statement from City Hall said.

Mayor Adams, known for his bold embrace of digital assets, made headlines in 2022 when he became the first U.S. mayor to convert his first three paychecks into Bitcoin and Ethereum.

“New York is the center of the world, and we want it to be the center of cryptocurrency and other financial innovations,” Adams said at the time.

As part of his administration’s broader vision, Adams has consistently promoted emerging technologies to foster a safer, more affordable city.

The summit is expected to spark dialogue on how crypto can fuel economic growth, attract global talent, and accelerate innovation in New York.

Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser emphasized the significance of convening such influential stakeholders, highlighting the city’s ambition to lead in the next wave of technological advancement.
