“Our subways are totally safe” — NYC Councilwoman Paladino criticizes progressive stance amid rising security threats

New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino took aim at progressive policies regarding public transit, particularly the city’s subway system.

Paladino’s comments, shared on social media, sparked heated debates among residents and officials alike.

“The subways are totally safe. It’s all right-wing propaganda,” Paladino wrote, reflecting what she claims is the stance of New York progressives. “We’re going to tax you out of your cars whether you like it or not because you need to be on the subway too.”

Paladino’s remarks highlight her critique of progressive officials who, according to her, remain steadfast in their position on public transit despite increasing incidents of crime and disorder in the subway system.

“This is the actual position of NY progressives, and there is absolutely no level of chaos or carnage that will change their mind,” she added, expressing frustration at what she perceives as a disconnect between policies and the realities faced by commuters.

Paladino’s statement comes at a time when concerns over safety on New York’s subways have reached new heights. Reports of violent incidents, harassment, and theft continue to dominate headlines, leaving many residents questioning the system’s safety.

Critics argue that the city’s leadership has failed to adequately address these issues, prioritizing policies like congestion pricing to discourage car usage over tackling transit crime.

Supporters of progressive transit policies, however, maintain that the subway remains a vital and sustainable mode of transportation for millions of New Yorkers and insist that measures are being taken to improve security.

Paladino’s comments have fueled an ongoing debate about the balance between environmental priorities and public safety. While some applaud her for voicing the frustrations of concerned commuters, others criticize her for politicizing the issue.

“This isn’t about right-wing or left-wing propaganda,” one commuter said. “It’s about making sure everyone feels safe while using public transit.”
