Bronx gears up for largest candle lighting ceremony to usher in Peace December 2024

The Bronx is set to host its largest-ever candle lighting ceremony, welcoming Peace December on Saturday, November 30th, from 5-8 PM at Loreto Playground, located at 1100 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, New York 10461.

This free and public event invites families, community members, and leaders to join in a collective act of peace and solidarity.

Participants are encouraged to bring their children and flameless candles to join an expected crowd of over 500 attendees, including community board members, elected officials, law enforcement, students, and local residents.

“Let us peace it together for a peaceful coexistence, public safety, and quality of life for all,” the organizers urge, highlighting the event’s focus on fostering a harmonious community spirit.

The event is spearheaded by Bronx Community Board 11 and the New York Peacebuilding Commission, organizations dedicated to showcasing the power of community unity and the beauty of diversity. Their leadership aims to create an inclusive space that reflects shared values of peaceful coexistence and public safety.

“We all deserve to live in communities that are peaceful, safe, clean, healthy, and sociable,” the organizers emphasize, underscoring the significance of choosing Loreto Playground as the permanent annual venue for this cherished ceremony. With its emphasis on inclusivity and community values, the park serves as the ideal backdrop for this symbolic gathering.

Attendees can look forward to light entertainment and inspiring speeches. Moreover, those unfamiliar with the globally acclaimed Peace December song are in for a delightful experience, adding a melodic touch to the evening’s celebrations.
