Loyalty or Political Opportunism: Dr. Sima Karetnaya’s Fiery Critique of NYC Politics

New York-based health expert Dr. Sima Karetnaya has sparked debate with a bold social media post calling out political hypocrisy and opportunism in New York City.

In a scathing critique, she lamented the fickle nature of politicians who switch allegiances as swiftly as the city’s unpredictable weather.

Karetnaya expressed frustration over how some so-called “good politicians” abandon their allies when the tide turns, only to embrace former adversaries when it suits their interests.

Without naming names, she highlighted a specific case—where individuals once demanded a governor’s resignation over sexual harassment allegations, only to later endorse him when political calculations shifted.

“Is that the kind of example you as public servants are setting—to dump friends and colleagues when they are in trouble and flee to where you think you see gold and diamonds?” she asked, questioning the moral integrity of such political maneuvering.

Her post carried a clear message of loyalty to NYC Mayor Eric Adams, whom she referred to as her “big friend and mentor.”

She assured him of her unwavering support, stating, “I will never be that rat that escapes the ship, be it moving or sinking, whether you are Mayor or not.”

Karetnaya’s remarks have resonated with many who see politics as increasingly transactional, raising the question: In an era of shifting loyalties, does true political conviction still have a place?
