A promising new chapter in the life of Modou Mbacké Gueye, a young Senegalese immigrant, was cut short on Saturday night when he was shot and killed during a violent robbery attempt in the United States.
According to a report, Gueye, who had recently arrived in the country via Nicaragua, was working as a delivery driver to support himself and his family back home. According to police, the attack happened late Saturday in an urban neighborhood as Gueye was making a delivery.
Witnesses said the assailants confronted him and demanded his belongings. Gueye reportedly refused to hand them over, prompting the attackers to open fire at close range. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
His killing has devastated the Senegalese diaspora community, where friends and relatives describe him as hardworking, determined, and full of hope for a brighter future. Community leaders are now calling for greater protection for delivery workers, who often operate in high-risk environments.
It was reported that the suspects fled the scene and remain at large. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
