Bronx BP Gibson Reaffirms Commitment to Clean Air and Environmental Justice

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson has restated her administration’s commitment to advancing clean air initiatives and tackling long-standing environmental injustices across Bronx communities. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Gibson said the event was aimed at emphasizing the right of every resident to breathe clean, safe air.

“Clean air is a fundamental human right, and today’s press conference was about reaffirming the belief that every resident deserves to breathe unpolluted air and ensuring our city and state agencies prioritize environmental justice and accountability in neighborhoods that have experienced years of neglect and disinvestment,” she said.

She noted that many Bronx neighborhoods have faced disproportionate levels of pollution for decades, resulting in persistent health and environmental challenges. Gibson called on government institutions to intensify efforts to correct these disparities and deliver healthier outcomes for vulnerable communities.

The Borough President also acknowledged the contributions of policymakers and environmental advocates in promoting new approaches to reduce pollution. “Thank you to my colleagues in government and environmental advocates for their partnership in supporting smart, alternative solutions, such as the Blue Highways initiative, to address environmental injustices in our borough,” she added.

Gibson reaffirmed her commitment to sustained advocacy, stressing that environmental protection will remain a key priority for her administration as the Bronx continues to push for equity, clean air, and community wellbeing.
