Gibson Hosts Wellness, Mentorship Event for Fathers and Youth Bronx

Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson says her office partnered with Bronx Fathers Taking Action and several community groups to host a Movember: Mind, Body & Community event at Bronx Legends Boxing Gym. The gathering brought together fathers and young people for an afternoon focused on wellness, mentorship, and strengthening community bonds.

Gibson thanked event sponsors and participants for supporting what she described as an important space for dialogue, movement, and community healing. She said the initiative was designed to promote healthier lifestyles, encourage father-child engagement, and provide a supportive environment for meaningful connection.

Gibson, who made history in 2022 as the first woman and first African-American to serve as Bronx Borough President, has long been a prominent figure in New York politics. Before her election to the borough’s top office, she represented the 16th District in the New York City Council from 2014 to 2021, where she led efforts on public safety, affordable housing, and community development.

Her public service career began even earlier in the New York State Assembly, where she won a 2009 special election to represent District 77. During her time in Albany, Gibson championed legislation on tenant rights, youth issues, and criminal justice reform, building a reputation as an energetic advocate for underserved communities.

As Borough President, Gibson has prioritized economic opportunity, food and health equity, youth empowerment, and safer neighborhoods. Her emphasis on community partnerships aligns with her support for initiatives like the Movember: Mind, Body & Community event, which she says reflects her broader commitment to fostering wellness, resilience, and unity across the Bronx.
