Albany City celebrates African Leaders with Afro beats

The Albany City Council was alive with energy as Councilmember Owusu Anane, alongside David Coulibaly, Adama Bah, and Ambassador Jerry Kwabena, hosted a remarkable event aimed at fostering the African immigrant presence within the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus.

The event, supported by main sponsor Door Dash and organizations including African Communities Together, AFRIKANA, and 1000 Shades of Women, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 200 attendees. David Coulibaly, Special Assistant to the Bronx Borough President, served as the master of ceremonies, guiding the program with poise.

The atmosphere was electrified by DJ Saddam, who brought the best of Afrobeat to the venue, setting the stage for a celebration of culture and community.

Honoring excellence within the community, the event recognized several awardees, including Robert Agyemang, AKindé Kodjo-Sanogo, Ramata Sakho, Balde Gassimou, Mory Kouyate, Fatoumata Camara, and Aïcha Cisse, Bharati Kemraj for their outstanding contributions.

Distinguished guests included Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson, Assemblymember Charles Fall, and numerous other community leaders, all committed to the night’s mission. The overarching theme of the gathering was “BE BOLD,” with a focus on building the next generation of African leaders.

Attendees enjoyed a delightful array of cuisine from various countries, sparking playful debates over who serves the best Jollof rice. This vibrant event underscored the rich cultural tapestry of the African community in Albany and its commitment to future leadership.
