Bronx BP Gibson celebrates Celia Cruz’s legacy at special commemoration event

In a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Celia Cruz, Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson hosted a celebration at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, honoring the life and enduring impact of the iconic Afro-Latina artist.

The event highlighted Cruz’s trailblazing contributions to music, culture, and history, solidifying her status as a cultural icon.

“Last week, we gathered at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts to celebrate the life and legacy of the incomparable Celia Cruz,” Gibson shared on her Facebook page. “It was an honor to recognize her trailblazing contributions to music, culture, and history.”

The commemoration was made even more special with the release of a quarter coin by the National Women’s History Museum and the United States Mint, which features Cruz’s image. This coin serves as a tribute to her significant influence and contributions, ensuring that her legacy continues to resonate with future generations.

“A special thank you to the National Women’s History Museum and the United States Mint for releasing a quarter coin that commemorates this iconic Afro-Latina artist,” Gibson added. “Celia’s legacy continues to inspire generations, and we are proud to honor her right here in the Bronx!”

The event not only celebrated Cruz’s musical achievements but also served as a reminder of her role in empowering and inspiring countless individuals through her work.
