Burglar steals $400K in cash, jewelry, designer goods from luxury Upper West Side apartment

A daring burglar shook a luxury high-rise apartment on the Upper West Side early on Thanksgiving, leaving the resident and their guest stunned.

The thief smashed through the door of the unit at 75 West End Ave., near W. 63rd St., at approximately 12:15 a.m., escaping with a safe holding an estimated $400,000 worth of cash and valuables.

The contents of the stolen safe included approximately $220,000 in cash and $160,000 in jewelry. Additionally, the burglar made off with three Goyard pouches valued at $6,000 and seven pairs of Louis Vuitton sneakers worth around $7,700.

A friend of the apartment’s resident, who had been staying there for about a month, was not home at the time of the break-in. It remains unclear how the thief accessed the 39-story building, which employs a team of doormen for security.

One resident expressed surprise at the breach, remarking, “For a building with doormen, this is shocking. You don’t expect something like this to happen here.”

Authorities are investigating how the burglar bypassed security measures to execute the high-stakes heist. Residents of the luxury building are now urging for a review of security protocols as police work to identify the suspect.

The Thanksgiving theft has left neighbors uneasy and reminded New Yorkers that even high-end residences are not immune to criminal activity.
