NYPD drone catches boys surfing NYC subway

An early morning subway stunt ended with the arrest of two teenagers after an NYPD drone spotted them atop a moving No. 7 train near the 103rd St.-Corona Plaza station. The incident unfolded around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, when officers were quickly dispatched to intervene.

The boys, aged 14 and 15, were found precariously riding on the roof of the train. Upon their removal and subsequent arrest, officers discovered the younger teen had a set of Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) keys in his possession, granting access to the conductor’s cabin.

“This kind of behavior is incredibly dangerous, not just for those involved but for everyone riding the train,” an NYPD spokesperson commented. “It’s a stark reminder of the risks associated with such reckless actions.”

Both teens were charged with reckless endangerment. Additionally, the 14-year-old with the MTA keys faced an extra charge for possession of burglar’s tools. The source of the keys remains under investigation, with officials emphasizing the need to secure such critical assets.

“Train surfing is not a game—it’s life-threatening,” the spokesperson added. “We urge parents to speak with their children about the severe consequences of these actions.”

The arrests highlight the effectiveness of the NYPD’s drone surveillance program, which has been instrumental in monitoring and responding to public safety concerns. “This technology allows us to act swiftly in situations where lives are at stake,” the spokesperson noted.

As investigations continue, the NYPD reiterates its commitment to ensuring commuter safety and discouraging dangerous behaviors on public transit.
