Congressman Himes targeted by thanksgiving bomb threat, calls for peace, civility

Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) revealed that he and his family were the targets of a bomb threat on Thanksgiving Day, a chilling incident that underscores the ongoing challenges posed by political violence in the United States.

“This morning, I was notified of a bomb threat targeting my home where I was celebrating Thanksgiving with my family,” Himes stated. Thanks to the swift response of law enforcement agencies, the threat was neutralized without incident. “Thankfully, after a swift and thorough response from the United States Capitol Police, the Greenwich Police Department, and the Stamford Police Department, no evidence of a bomb was found,” he confirmed.

Himes expressed heartfelt gratitude to the officers involved for their professionalism and efficiency. “Mary, Emma, Linley, and I extend our utmost gratitude to our local law enforcement officers for their immediate action to ensure our safety,” he said.

In his statement, Himes emphasized the need to reject violence as a political tool. “There is no place for political violence in this country, and I hope that we may all continue through the holiday season with peace and civility,” he urged.

The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the rising threats faced by public officials and their families. Congressman Himes called for unity and calm during the holiday season, urging Americans to stand against acts that jeopardize peace and democracy.
